The last year has been a bit of a mess. It's a weird transition from doing something for the love of art and doing something for money. That's what I tried to do last year. Saying that I became burned out would be accurate. Burned out on self promoting, dealing with people who could not keep commitments and a general lack of progress. For the moment I am done trying to 'make a living' off my art. I have taken a much needed break and now I am ready to start over.

This month, I will be accepting subjects free of charge. Basically, if you want someone or something photographed, email me and lets do it. I will also be booking a studio for a day this month. If you are interested in more information on that, email me.

I came across this article today from The Art of Manliness, it's about dressing taller. Being a shorty, I perused it and the article makes some good points, a couple of which I'll be applying to my own clothing choices. Cute Scenarios at The Mink

Last night, Cute Scenarios played the Backroom at the Mink along with SixL6, Bad Channel and Jono Lacy. It was all in all an awesome event! If you're feeling left out, you can still catch Cute Scenarios and their friends, The Raygun, at the Tutu 5K next Saturday. The shows are free, but if you register to walk/run you get a free shirt and the proceeds go to benefit Camp Hope.

I've been brushing up on my photo editing skills, trying out new techniques and options. I'm pretty impressed with all the new toys Adobe keeps coming up with, we've come a long way from Photoshop 6, which is what I started learning almost eleven years ago. Yikes!

Q&A

Every now and then I get questions in my inbox. I would like to start addressing some of them in the blog because some times people are shy.

Q: Where are you located?

My primary location is in the Spring Branch area of Houston. I also frequent West Austin/Johnson City, and North Dallas/McKinney areas.

Q: When is a good time to call?

I answer the phone between 10 am and 9 pm, Monday thru Friday. Any other time, just shoot me an email and I'll get right back to you. If I miss your call just leave your name and number.

Q: Do you do TFP or TFCD?

I do occasionally do TFF (time for files) sessions. It depends on what the concept is, or who the person is, and if the experience can offer something special for my portfolio. Feel free to email me about such a proposition, you never know ;)

Q: What kind of camera do you use?

Well I started out with a Canon AE1, my mother's 35mm. In college I got to use a Canon 10D and Rebel, and now I used a Nikon D80. I also have my grandfather's 35mm camera he got when he was in the military, I don't use it, but it makes me feel good to have it.

Jennifer and Jake tied the knot last Saturday at Molly Pryor Memorial Orchard in what is known as the Energy Corridor of Houston. The sky was looking ominous for a bit, but things cleared up and it turned out to be a gorgeous day. Here are some of the shots from before the ceremony.

"The sanctuary was constructed in 1889, and was the home of Bethany Lutheran Church until 1954 when First Baptist Church purchased the building. During their ownership many additions including classrooms, offices and a fellowship hall were built along with a renovation of the sanctuary.

In 1988 Fredericksburg Bible Church purchased the facility as their permanent home. In 2000 a major renovation of the sanctuary was completed. The sanctuary is capable of holding approximately 250 people."

Went to DiIorio's in Hempstead with my mother and grandmother to get some fresh vegies. Can't get any better than veg not grown in a hot house. It's been a long time since I had an all local dinner and I gotta say I've missed it. I had to take a picture of the pickled quail eggs in honor of my Papa, he loved them. Blech!

I was playing around with my Dad and Step Mom's dogs in the back yard, this is their schnauzer Augustus, who we call Gus. He didn't quite feel like cooperating with me, and the lighting is off but I just had to show his handsome self off.

This is not the best picture. It is however, the last picture taken of our beloved cat Mustard. He passed away Sunday after being attacked by a dog. He was a good cat, and I loved him every second of the six years I had him. I don't believe in a lot of things but I do believe there's a special place in the universe for all the babies who have to leave us. I hope he has lots of boxes and a brand new swivel chair to watch birds in.

Yay New Blog Layout and Stuff!

I am a fan of progress much like Paul F Tompkins is a fan of hilarity. Off the bat you may have noticed the new color scheme and layout. Orange and teal come across fresh to me, I gotta say I'm digging it. Bold blues are generally my goto color picks but they can come across as sad.

If you direct your attention to the link bar above you will notice a new page link: Photographers Who Inspire Me, if you have a minute check it out and show these people some love.

If you look at the bottom of this post (and all posts) you'll find the Facebook 'Like' button, use it when you like stuff. This is by far faster than leaving a comment (there for raising the brownie points for people who comment) and it helps me know when people like.....stuff.

Hopefully, I'll be updating the blog design even more this week. Maybe even some new work. Maybe even a new self portrait. Feel free to be scandalized.

Weddings: Duane and Valarie

You may recall them from their engagement session earlier this year, Duane and Valarie have finally jumped the broom. They had a ceremony on Quintana Beach surrounded by an eclectic group of friends and family. Besides a delicious feast there was a Masquerade ball, pinata for the kiddies, cup cakes, and a serious amount of good will and love. Thank you guys for letting me be apart of your day.

Flipping through some of my old work and came across a project I did in college. A photo collage inspired by the amazing David Hockney. You gotta check out his work. My favorite being this one. Well here is mine...

It actually made me a little sad to see this piece. It was made in my room at the last house I lived in, it was my sanctuary. While I do appreciate that I'm now older and a little wiser, I miss those blinding blue walls. Life seemed more colorful then, not as beige. Have I mentioned that I have a strong dislike of beige, taupe too.

The Wildseed Farm

About five or ten minutes about side of Fredericksburg, Tx, is the Wildseed Farm. It's more than just a garden center, it has all sorts of awesome goodies, from local pantry staples to adorable gifts, it's a great place to spend an hour. They also have clean bathrooms and lots of friendly cats.

Some old portrait work from 2005/2006, featuring the beautiful Michelle. Recently retouched in Photoshop. What impresses me now is that these were all shot at my old house in the spare bedroom, in a cramped space with not the greatest lighting, and me not knowing a lot about the camera I was using. We had a great time though :)

I'm pretty sure we had the radio on and she was singing along with Pink by Aerosmith, which I found appropriate.
